About the Club
WICS (Women in Computer Science) is a club at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy in Austin, Texas. The club was created by Akshara Anand with the help of Jasmine Stone in the 2015-2016 school year to promote women in STEM, especially in computer science and engineering. The club focuses around learning all aspects of computers- software and hardware. We have guest speakers come and talk about their careers in computer science , and lectures about everything from hardware basics to cryptography. We promote competitions such as NCWIT, and are also learning Python! Come to Room 220 on Thursdays during lunch if you're interested. No experience necessary!

President and Founder
Akshara Anand is a senior at LASA. She founded this club in her sophomore year, starting August 2015. She has always had a strong interest in computers and enjoyed working with them, from building computers with her brother in elementary school to writing simple programs as a middle-schooler. She enjoys the challenging problem-solving aspect of computer science. She is also a captain of LASA's Science Olympiad team, President of LASA Ambassadors, President of the Lecture Series, and founder of the STEMInnovation Program. In her spare time you can find her making Spotify playlists, learning new programming languages, reading books, or spending time outside.

Vice President
Rebecca Hicke is a senior at LASA. She has always loved all things STEM, and was involved in robotics from fifth through seventh grade. She decided to try computer science last year after discovering a passion for engineering in SciTech during her freshman year. Now she hopes to major in electrical engineering or computer science next year at college to pursue her love for problem-solving and languages. Bridget also rows at Texas Rowing Center after school on most days, which is where she spends most of her free time, and has been an officer of German Club since last year. If she’s not rowing, Bridget spends her free time playing the Sims, walking her two dogs, practicing her German skills, and reading scientific articles.
